The PhD programme ‘Interdisciplinary Studies of Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning’ (iCELL) was designed to address growing societal challenges such as technological progress, demographic change and globalisation. Lifelong learning is increasingly becoming a prerequisite for individual participation and professional success. The programme aims to contribute to the development of holistic solutions by overcoming the fragmentation of research in specialist disciplines and promoting integrative approaches. Combining perspectives from educational sciences, psychology, computer science and organisational sciences on continuing education and lifelong learning, the iCELL focuses on educational issues, particularly application-oriented, design-based and empirical research.
