The master programme Ancient History deepens the knowledge gained and the understanding of different cultures in the Mediterranean area and in the Middle East. Topics related to women’s and gender history are an important part of the education. Students will gain the ability to think in historical categories and development contexts. They will gain in-depth knowledge in sources studies of the Greek and Roman antiquity as well as special knowledge of selected areas of ancient history, classical studies and related fields. They will be able to work academically in all its aspects, they will know how to edit sources and develop research projects under guidance. Ancient languages such as ancient Greek and Latin, which form the basis for the dealing with modern languages, are also part of the curriculum. The degree programme mainly deals with Greek and Roman history and history research connected to it.

The degree programme Ancient History deals with research of history of the different cultures in the Mediterranean area and the Middle East.

Exams

The master programme Ancient History consists of eight modules, an advanced module in Academic thinking and working in ancient history, concentration module 1: Greek history, concentration module 2: Roman history, research module, group of compulsory modules sources research and editing techniques, module ancient history and classical studies, applied history: excursion(s), master privatissimum module. Moreover a master thesis must be written and an examination about this thesis must be passed.
