Master’s programme Jewish Cultural History

The master's programme in Jewish Cultural History is an interdisciplinary programme dealing with Jewish culture, history, and religion from antiquity to the present. The main areas are Jewish traditional literature, Yiddish and German-Jewish literature of the 19th and 20th centuries, research on antisemitism and the Holocaust, and language courses in Modern Hebrew and Yiddish, each of which the students have to study for three semesters. The aim of the programme is to acquire knowledge and analytical skills in Jewish culture and identities in various societal contexts, eras, and regions. The master’s programme is to enable the students to understand Jewish cultural history as a component of European culture and identity.
