Master programme Biotechnology (E)

Content and focus of the degree programme:

The master's programme in Biotechnology in Graz is offered as a joint degree programme of the Graz University of Technology and the Karl Franzens University Graz. It is one of the key technologies of this century and a strongly interdisciplinary oriented field. Graduates will be able to resolve scientific questions related to biotechnology autonomously and in an interdisciplinary and integrated way. Central to the programme is academic pre-vocational education in basic and applied research and industrial practice of biotechnologically oriented production processes. The focus of this programme is on the imparting of molecular and process engineering skills. The medium of instruction is English and German.

Definition of the field of studies

Biotechnology deals with the use of biosystems to develop applications in industry, agriculture, environment and medicine.

Exams

The master’s programme consists of one stage of study. Courses are held in the form of lectures, exercise courses, seminars and projects. Students have to choose two elective modules and a laboratory project from the whole range of courses in the catalogue of elective subjects. To complete the programme successfully students have to pass a master’s examination, which consists of proof of pass grades on all relevant examination subjects, a pass grade on the master’s thesis and an examination before a committee. Use of the English language in suitable courses and a recommended study period abroad contribute to success in the future professional life.
