The doctoral programme in Clinical Medical Science at the Medical University of Innsbruck is designed as a part-time programme for doctors who are or will be in clinical training. It comprises at least six semesters; this corresponds to 180 ECTS credits. The clinical medicine doctoral programme at the Medical University of Innsbruck offers training for independent scientific work. The programme includes traditional university teaching formats (lectures, seminars, practicals) to impart theoretical knowledge and practical skills as well as independent work on a research project under the supervision of experienced university lecturers with a proven academic track record who fulfil the legal requirements for supervising dissertations. The special feature of the doctoral programme in clinical medical science is the fundamental possibility of completing it alongside specialist medical training. A total of twelve months of exclusive research activity is obligatory. It is possible to use the 9-month research module as part of the special specialisation in all specialist training plans.
