The teacher training programme in English will enable future English teachers to act in a highly competent, flexible and confident way in their teaching job. Apart from the constructive and critical contact that will help them to attain a sound subject knowledge during their studies, students also have to acquire the relevant knowledge and skills which are useful for working both inside and outside the classroom, especially practice-related skills and cultural and intercultural skills. Moreover, the students also acquire skills that go beyond their subject-related skills, i.e. the ability to critically reflect, to develop an understanding for interdisciplinary and intercultural thinking, flexibility, coordination and motivation ability and the organisation of the creative learning process in foreign language teaching. The teacher training programme must be combined with another teaching subject. The medium of instruction is English.

The teacher training programme in "English as a foreign language” is academic pre-vocational qualification for teaching at higher secondary schools. This course includes the current secondary curricula, the legal framework surrounding teaching at schools and the law governing the organisation of schools, the performance assessment regulation and examination rules as well as the regulations surrounding school and university final examinations.
The students have to take the following compulsory modules: - Introduction to the didactics of foreign languages - skills-orientated foreign language teaching - Assessment of foreign language skills - Teaching placement - Language Usage I - II - Applied Language Skills I - II - Professional Language Skills for Teachers of English - Introduction to English Linguistics - Use and Learning of English - Applied Linguistics - Introduction to Literary Studies - Literary Analysis - Survey of Literature and Culture - Introduction to Cultural Studies additionally an elective module from: - Critical Area Studies I or Critical Area Studies II and an elective module from: - Cultural Studies I or Cultural Studies II Bachelor's thesis in English
